19th UCMAS International Competition

Visual Calculation

Objectives

This competition signifies our commitments in:

  1. Providing the opportunity for UCMAS learners to compete with each other from different parts of the world;
  2. Providing an arena for battle of minds for exceptional speed and mental precision in accordance with Multiple Intelligence Theory;
  3. Affirming competence and recognizing the excellent achievements of UCMAS learners in the learning of Abacus & Mental Arithmetic;
  4. Fostering a closer relationship with the UCMAS course instructors and learners

Event Highlights

Time :  8:30 a.m. till 9:00 a.m. (Arrival of Contestants)

9:30 a.m. (Competition start)

Venue : Cultural Activity Center INTERNATIONAL ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY MALAYSIA (IIUM) Jalan Gombak, 50728 Kuala Lumpur.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Categories of A to K are only open to those UCMAS learners from any UCMAS centres throughout the world while Category L ‘Grand Level’ is also open to public (non-UCMAS learners).
  • All the enrolments of competition of learner shall comply with his category of learnership. However, learners who have not completed two-third (2/3) of their existing level by Monday, 7  October 2013 will be eligible to admit one lower category of competition.
    • Example: 12 lessons: 2/3 of them will be 8 lessons
  • Age calculation: (Year 2013 minus (-) Year of birth)
  • Maximum of ONE category of competition to be admitted by one individual. (Except for Grand Level)

* NOTE: Any contestant, who is found to be admitted into other lower categories of competition, shall be immediately disqualified from the competition. National Franchisees shall be solely responsible for all the information submitted and registrations made. UCMAS International Headquarters will not entertain nor be in anyway responsible for any disputes, complaints and appeals arising from any such disqualification.

Judging Criteria

  • There will be a panel of judges from UCMAS International Headquarters.
  • Each addition / subtraction question will carry ten marks while multiplication / division questions will carry five marks each.
  • In the event there is a tie in the overall scores for each category, the jury will rank the participants based on their ages, greatest capability of addition & subtraction and accuracy rates. If a tie still exists, both will be declared as winners.
  • The decision of the panel of judges is final and no further correspondence shall be entertained.

Allocation of Prizes

  • Trophies and certificates will be awarded to Grand Champion, Champion, 1st Placing, 2nd Placing, 3rd Placing and Merit winners for each category.

Registration Procedures

  • The registration form will be sent from UCMAS International Headquarters to the respective centres. All the registration form must be filled out completely. Age information remains important as it is one of the criteria to be taken into consideration if there is a tie in the overall scores.
  • UCMAS International Headquarters reserves the rights to disqualify any contestants whose information provided is found to be false or incorrect,regardless of whether it is intentionally or unintentionally. National Franchisees shall be solely responsible for all the information submitted and UCMAS International Headquarters will not entertain nor be in anyway responsible for any disputes, complaints and appeals arising from any such disqualification.
  • Please indicate the required t-shirt size for each participant in the registration form. T-shirt sizes are available as follows:

  • Registrations must be made through the respective centres together with the appropriate fees. All registrations must reach UCMAS International Headquarters on or before the closing date.

Registration Fees

  • A competition t-shirt and meals will be provided to all participants and the registration fees prescribed by UCMAS International Headquarters are as follows:
  • USD28.00 (On or before 8   October 2013)
  • USD56.00 (From 9   October 2013 onwards till 4   November 2013)
  • USD84.00 (From 5   November 2013 onwards till 12   November 2013)

Registration will not be accepted after the above-mentioned deadlines.

General Rules

  1. It is compulsory for all contestants to wear proper attires & UCMAS competition T-shirts on the day of competition. No sandals are allowed. Contestants who are competing for abacus calculation categories are also reminded to bring along their abacuses.
  2. Competition dockets will be given prior to the competition.
  3. All the National Franchisees / State Franchisees / Franchisees / Course Instructors must dress in proper uniform attire. (Blue blazer for men and chili red blazer for ladies)
  4. As prescribed by the University’s rules & regulations, it is also compulsory for all parents and spectators to be dressed in proper attires at all times where sleeveless shirt, short pant, mini-short, mini-skirt or skirt above the knee is strictly disallowed.

NOTE: UCMAS International Headquarters reserve the rights to disallow any contestants, parents & spectators from entering into the competition hall should they fail to adhere to Rule 10 (a) & (d). 

Others

UCMAS International Headquarters reserves the right to make amendments to the rules and regulations. Further notice will be issued should there be any changes on this.  Please feel free to contact UCMAS International Headquarters for any enquiry or clarifications

Listening Calculation

Objective

The purpose of having Listening Competition is to promote the UCMAS Mental Arithmetic Listening learning curve for the Learner Brain Enhancement and falls directly in UCMAS teaching delivery of Concentration, Observation, Memory, Imagination, Creativity and Judgement, Analysis, Reasoning, Self confident. (C.O.M.I.C. J.A.R.S.)

Registration Requirements

  • This competition is open to learners who participate in the visual competition.
  • Contestants are required to register through their respective learning Centres.
  • Centre principals/Course Instructors are required to brief their learners on the rules & regulations prior to the competition.
  • The registration fee is USD28. (Fee includes one UCMAS@PILOT whiteboard marker pen), Registrations must be submitted on or before 8th October 2013 to:

Rules & Regulations

  1. This competition is open to all UCMAS learners who participate in UCMAS Abacus & Mental Arithmetic (visual) International Competition 2013.
  2. There shall be only one category for the competition and there is no age and course level limitation.
  3. The competition shall be conducted in English.
  4. The demo version of listening calculation competition can be downloaded from www.ucmas.com after 1st September 2013.
  5. The competition will be divided into knock-out preliminary rounds & a final.  A maximum of 15 finalists shall be qualified to proceed to the final round.
  6. The competition consists only addition and subtraction sums.
  7. It is compulsory for participating UCMAS learners to wear proper attires & UCMAS T-shirt on the day of competition. Learners shall be required to present their competition dockets and wrist ribbons for verification prior to commencement of the competition.
  8. No substitution or omission of any friends / learners or members shall be permitted at any time be re-present the contestant if he or she is not presence.
  9. The competition comprises four stages:
    • Prior to the start of Preliminary Round
      • There shall be 5 warm-up questions prior to the start of each round, which general instructions & Do’s & Don’ts shall be instructed to the contestants.
      • Further a short movie clips shall be aired to give a better understanding to the contestants.
    • Start of Preliminary Round
      1. The knock-up preliminary competition shall begin after the warm-up questions are given. Contestants shall be required write their answers onanswer sheets, and toraise up their answers once is being told by the Chief Invigilator.
      2. The announcements by the Chief Invigilator shall be made as follows:
        • 3, 2, 1…SHOW . Learners must raise their answers with both hands and they are prohibited from touching any WRITING UTENSILS or PUT DOWN THE ANSWER SHEET till being told to do so
        • The invigilators shall move around the row and the contestants answer, and contestants who give the incorrect answers, their ANSWER SHEETS shall be collected by the invigilators and they shall be required to leave the competition hall.
        • The invigilator’s decision is final.
        • The Preliminary Round shall come to an end once a maximum number of 15 remaining contestants have reached and it shall proceed in Final Round after a short break.
    • Prior to the start of Final Round
      • There shall be 5 warm-up questions prior to the start of each round, which general instructions& Do’s & Don’ts shall be instructed to the contestants.
    • Start of Final Round
      • The knock-up preliminary competition shall begin after the warm-up questions are given. Contestants shall be required write their answers on answer sheets, and to raise up their answers once is being told by the Chief Invigilator.
      • The announcements by the Chief Invigilator shall be made as follows:
        • 3, 2, 1… SHOW (Learners must raise their answers with both hands and they are prohibited from touching any WRITING UTENSILS or PUT DOWN THE ANSWER SHEET till being told to do so)
        • The Invigilators shall move around the row and the contestants answer, and contestants who give the incorrect answers, their ANSWER SHEETS shall be collected by the Invigilators and they shall be required to leave the stage.
        • The decision for “Knock Out” shall be conducted without prejudice and final.
        • The Final Round shall come to an end when a final contestant is left.
  10. The competition will have no time limit, but contestants are required to raise up the answer once is being told by the Chief Invigilator, failure to do so will result in disqualification.
  11. Each contestant will be provided with UCMAS@PILOT whiteboard marker pen during the competition day.
  12. Answer sheet shall be provided.
  13. Copying or attempting to copy and/or to obtain assistance from illegitimate sources during the competition will result in disqualification.
  14. Contestants are required to use mental arithmetic throughout the competition and abacus computation is strictly prohibited and it will result in disqualification.
  15. Contestants are strictly not permitted to be in    possession of any electronic devices and abacus tools.
  16. It is the responsibility of the contestants to have their answer written legible.
  17. All prizes are strictly not transferable, assignable, exchangeable or redeemable by the contestants in any form or manner other than that specified by UCMAS International Headquarters. All specific or special terms and conditions that are attached to the prizes (whether by UCMAS International Headquarters or sponsors) must be adhered to by the contestants.
  18. If at any time during the competition or after the competition, a winner is found not complying with any of the rules & regulations, UCMAS International Headquarters reserve the right to cancel and/or recover the claimed prize at its sole discretion. In such a situation, the winning entry or the winning contestant will be disqualified and the panel of judges will determine a new winning candidates.
  19. In consideration of UCMAS International Headquarters offering the contestants the opportunity to participate, the contestants hereby unconditionally and irrevocably agree and shall ensure that he or she, parents, guardians, centre principals and course instructor shall agree to the following:
    • The members of the winning team shall be available for post-competition production, recording and publicity of the competition, such as:
      • interviews (which shall be videotape recorded); and/or
      • taking still photographs, audio or visual recording for promotions and publicity purposes.
    • UCMAS International Headquarters reserves the rights to take photographs or video recording of any contestants/winners individually and/or collectively anduse them along with their personal particulars at any time for news and commercial purposes, without prior notice or consent.
    • All entries and submissions including but not limited to the models and ideas shall be deemed the property of UCMAS International Headquarters.
  20. UCMAS International Headquarters reserves the rights to vary, postpone or reschedule the dates and venue of the competition period at its sole discretion.

By participating in this competition, contestants, parents, guardians, centre principals and course instructors shall agree to be bound by the competition rules & regulations and all decisions made by UCMAS International Headquarters.

Marking/Invigilation

  1. Invigilator will do the marking after each question.
  2. Contestants are given 3 seconds to write their answer on the Answer Sheet (paper will provided).
  3. Once the Chief Invigilator mentions SHOW, contestants are required to raise up their Answer Sheet above their forehead and wait for the instruction of the Invigilators for further action.
  4. Contestants who give the incorrect answers, answer sheets are blanked or those who do not raise up the answer on their forehead (once ‘SHOW’ is shouted) shall be deemed to have been knocked out of the competition. Their answer sheets will be collected and they shall be guided to leave the competition hall/stage.
  5. The remaining contestants shall put down their answer sheet once they are being told by the Invigilators and proceed with the next question by automatically flipping over to another new sheet of paper.
  6. The invigilator to contestant ratio is 1:10.

UC Maze Competition

Objectives

This competition aims to strengthen learners’ overall visualization and observation skills with speedy hand-eye coordination.

Registration Requirements

  • This competition is open to all learners include non-UCMAS learners.
  • Contestants are required to register through their respective learning Centres.
  • Centre principals/Course Instructors are required to brief their learners on the maze competition.
  • The registration fee is USD 5.
  • Non-UCMAS learners can register through any learning Centres.

Rules & Regulations

  1. This competition is open to all UCMAS learners include non-UCMAS learners.
  2. There shall be no categories for the Maze competition and there is no age and course level limitation.
  3. The competition’s rules & regulations shall be pronounced in English and Mandarin.
  4. The sample of maze game can be downloading from www.ucmas.com after DATE.
  5. The time limit is 2 minutes. Learners have to complete it within 2 minutes with 2 papers.
  6. It is compulsory for compulsory for participating UCMAS learners to wear proper attires & UCMAS T-shirt on the day of competition. Learners shall be required to present their competition dockets and wrist ribbon for verification prior to commencement of the competition.
  7. No substitution or omission of any friends/learners or member shall be permitted at any time be re-present the contestant if he or she is not presence.
  8. The maze competition will be held in 2 session once finish the visual competition.
    • 1st session will be held after finish the first session visual competition.
    • 2nd session will be held after finish the second session visual competition.
  9. The announcement by the chief  Invigilator shall be made as follows:
    • Ready….whistle. (Learners must start to do the maze while chief invigilator announces it.)
    • The invigilators shall move around the row and collect back all the maze game.
    • The ended announcement will be pronounced by stopwatch with whistle.
  10. Contestants are required to use blue UCMAS@PILOT whiteboard marker pen to play maze.
  11. Copying or attempting to copy and/or to obtain assistance from illegitimate sources during the competition will result in disqualification.
  12. All prizes are strictly not transferable, assignable, exchangeable or redeemable by the contestants in any form or manner other than that specified by UCMAS International Headquarters.
